Where the individual feels Independent!

Where News is not fake  And opinion is not biased; Where no temple, mosque, Gurdwara or Church, feels the need to use loudspeakers,  to practice their faith;  Where no one retiring from constitutional position, feels the need to voice concerns for, safety of people following a particular religion; Where no government asks you, who your ancestors were, and  no one feels victimized, because of his or her religion, race, creed or caste; Where the government exudes responsibility, for actions it takes, for data it collects, for policies it pursues  and statements its officials give; Where policy is proactive, and; infants do not need to die,  to jolt  government machinery into action;  Where  no one supports a leader, who refuses to sing the ' National Song ', because his religion doesn't permit it; Where political discourse is not limited, By narrow party ideologies; Where leaders do not get votes, because of their caste;

My reaction to this news item from yesterday:

Invictus

I haven't written a decent poem since years now. But occasionally I find a poem worth repeating to myself on the net. IF, by Rudyard Kipling was the last one I quoted here. Today, I am quoting another one - "Invictus" by William Ernest Henley - the title means unconquered in Latin. Out of the night that covers me, Black as the pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul. In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the Horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds and shall find me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.

The Apprentice on the ship

Wrote a Poem after a very long time yesterday - criticism invited. In a crowd of compatriots, he felt lost. Alone with his thoughts, his world and his plots. There was no storm to stop him No wreck and no deterrent Nothing went wrong, : : yet he did not win. He would win unhindered he had thought Dreams will float, on calm waters of opportunity. He had never thought, that there’d be no wind And no land, no coast, no seam On which he would set foot and leap to the sky Now there was just the ocean, and clouds of unfulfilled dreams. Everyone now, wanted to sail on the ship. A ship he never wanted to be, on forever “It would be my means to reach land” - he thought He wanted to be a master of his own island. The island never came, nor did he leap to reach the sky. The land of opportunity had vanished from sight. And he hadn’t yet learnt to fly. A poem for 10 paisa!

Great Bong has put up two very touching posts [ 1 ] [ 2 ]. Quoting from [1] (GreatBong .. sorry for not asking for reprod permissions in advance :P ) "But therein lay the beauty of it. The beauty of conviction. The beauty of dreams. The fact that this man believes that one day he will make it as a poet . And what's inspiring is that despite the odds he faces every day, he still manages to radiate enthusiasm for his craft---a luminant joi de vivre that comes from believing in what he does. That sales pitch of "a poem for 10 paisa" accompanied with the boisterous recitation---he must be doing this routine about hundreds of times every day, mostly to people who are irritated by his presence (I saw another group on the grass who basically told him to f*** off) and just want this nuisance to leave them alone. Looking at him going about his work, I realized that not once during his numerous sales pitches does his enthusiasm or self-belief waver, nor does he ever sell his

Panch Sahashtra Pradarpanam

This blog completed 5000 (Panch Sahastra) hits (Pradarpanam = Impressions). Its been more than an year; I had started this blog during my summer internship in May 2004. Between then and today much has happened and this blog has recorded all of it. As of today, the next MastishK '05 and Prerana 2005 draw nearer; and Arbit Choudhury has transcended to mobile space from today. Among all this I continue to work with KPMG - and am still dreaming - the Indrajeet is still alive - hoping that he will never become a Nirmal. Here an old (unfinished) Poem of mine on Dreams ......... Chasing Dreams You dream big when, you're young. Jingoistic 'bout life without thinking of strife. Changing the world seems so easy then. You are too eager and ask! 'I will grow up when?' But as the times of test come, you fail! Is it conditions.... which betray you? or YOU who betray the dreams???? All dreams look like Shadows! Seemingly Real but fallacies all the same All roads are misty with

Winds of thought

Ekla Chalo re

Watched "Bose- The forgotten Hero" on Saturday. Gem of a movie and probably the best of Shyam Benegal. Subhash Chandra Bose has always been an inspiring character in the history for the youth. This post however is not about the movie, its about the lead song 'Tanha Rahee' which is based on the poem 'Ekla Chalo Re' by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. I had pasted the English translation of this poem on my blog earlier. http://the-complete-man.blogspot.com/2004/12/tsunami-times_30.html However, yesterday I found the original bengali text of the poem and found that the meaning in the above translation was not exact. So I have endeavourer (with the help of Shubham ) to re-translate it into English and Hindi by myself. Here is the output of my work: Bengali Jodi Tor Dak Soone Keu Na Asse Tobe Ekla Chalo re Ekla Chalo Ekla Chalo Ekla Chalore Jodi Keu Katha Na Kai Ore Ore O Abhaga Jodi Sabai Thake Mukh Firae Sabai Kare Bhay Tabe Paran Khule O Tui Mukh Fute Tor Maner Kath

If - Rudyard Kipling

I was in search of this poem since log .. so when I found it I coudn't resist psting it on my blog If If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you; If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies, Or, being hated, don't give way to hating, And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise; If you can dream - and not make dreams your master; If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim; If you can meet with triumph and disaster And treat those two imposters just the same; If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools, Or watch the things you gave your life to broken, And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools; If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings

The Poem of the lost . . . .

I wrote this poem a few minutes ago in a bad state of mind . . . didn't want to post it .. but nevertheless found a theme that would suit it .... so am posting . . . here is the theme Imagine a scene of a Roman Amphitheatre where a duel is on, between two warriors .. All are enjoying the duel . . everyone is watching the warriors but none can feel that turmoil inside each warrior . . none understand that each warrior is as afriad inside as much as he dares his opponent. Life is sometimes similar. . we watch the characters play the duel of life but never understand that the warriors, the very people who are our freinds, brothers, sisters ... they need us to understand their within .. they need support .. and as much as their warrior self refuses support... they need it as badly Here is the poem. . . if it smells of me ... ignore the smell ... its me and yet its not me .. Sometimes when I am alone . . talking to people yet alone on the inner side . . I get this tought - t

My nation Bhārat

Today is 15th August, Independence Day - a great day for the nation; my motherland turns 58 today...... From the past towards the future. . .

Ahmedabad was the last leg of my itinerary. After Akshardhaam, the next stop was Gandhi Ashram - at Sabarmati. But more on this in my next post which I have decided to completely dedicate to Gandhiji.  I am writing this post as a link from the past to the present. While Gandhi was a past. . . my further posts might talk about my present preoccupation - both material and philosophical. The reason why my posts have been few and far in the past few days has been my extreme involvement in an activity which paves way into the future. . . It is a dream that i have nurtured since the past 6 months . . . I have strived alone(initially) and with support (now) and am still working . . . the battle is fierce. . we are racing against time . . and technology is our strong-post . . hope our efforts succeed . . will write more about this "Dream" in the coming posts . . but to bite time here's a poem on "Dreams" (PS: If there are people who regularly visit my blog - I dunno

Eons..........

It’s been an obscenely long time since I have written to this blog… was in home for the last month and then when I came back I got busy with the new batch and its induction process… well anyway, now that I am back I would like to blog about all my experiences in the last few days… home was fun this time and so has been the induction process … This blog ends here …. The next ones will start at the start of my ‘holidays’............. Let me end with a nice poem which I wrote a long time back (year 2000) but is apt for this situtaion... DAYS PASSED BY Days passed by The days of struggle tiring yet sweet they were The days of tension difficult yet meaningful they were Every day unique in itself gave me new experiences Opportunities; to understand myself The days contributed in building me up Each day told me my shortcomings Difficult future life could have been Without the days The days which passed by Happiness, ease, satisfaction Pain, grief, sorrow All are impor
