Who is responsible after all?

4 days ago 30 people died and 56 were hurt in a terror plot in Malegaon. And yet, the western media has reported little about the whole incident. The news has been underplayed to the extent that apart from the first outbreak of the event - no other information was given by the western news channels who were otherwise busy trumpeting the call for support for 'War against Terror' by President Bush.

There were 2519 terrorism related fatalities in India last year; the numbers were 2642, 3702, 3973 and 5839 in 2004, 2003, 2002 and 2001 respectively [Source: http://www.satp.org]. But MSNBC says that only "2,929 terrorism-related deaths around the world since the attacks on New York and Washington" - does the world include Asia, Middle East and Africa?

I do not expect the NATO forces to land into India and fight the 'War on Terror' - but by turning a blind eye to India's problems, by protecting Pakistan time and again from facing the wrath of Indian retaliatory action, by ignoring major acts of terrorism in India, by ignoring the very elements in Pakistan who harbour terrorism - they are making the War difficult for India and this indeed is no way to treat an ally.

This kind of apathy towards terrorism in Asia and Middle East during the 80's, led to the rise of very elements who have created chaos in the world today. It is an established fact that Al Quaeda/ Taliban and its sister organizations were being actively supported by the same elements who fuelled terrorism in India. The seed of terrorism was sown in South East Asia with the beginning of Punjab/Khalistan and other terrorist movements actively harboured by Pakistan.

However, the western world does not seem to have learnt from its mistakes in the 80's and is still taking a severely myopic view of terrorism in the world. More so, the current practice of brutally crushing a few forces and turning a blind eye towards the others (while letting them grow in other countries) is only further antagonizing these forces and thus encouraging a rise in terrorism.

    While India is a bigger ECONOMIC ally for the US as compared to Pakistan; Pakistan is, and has always been, a bigger POLITICAL ally for the US as compared to India.
    Perhaps this is the reason for their double standards.

The last two days have been filled with coverage of Mr. Tata's contributions to the country, the economy, and the global business world. Ekla Chalo re

Watched "Bose- The forgotten Hero" on Saturday. Gem of a movie and probably the best of Shyam Benegal. Subhash Chandra Bose has always been an inspiring character in the history for the youth. This post however is not about the movie, its about the lead song 'Tanha Rahee' which is based on the poem 'Ekla Chalo Re' by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. I had pasted the English translation of this poem on my blog earlier. http://the-complete-man.blogspot.com/2004/12/tsunami-times_30.html However, yesterday I found the original bengali text of the poem and found that the meaning in the above translation was not exact. So I have endeavourer (with the help of Shubham ) to re-translate it into English and Hindi by myself.
