From Holi to Dreamz unlimited . .

I was going through different blogs on people’s description of holi celebrations when I found Manish Chauhan’s Blog on Holi.

His blog reminded me of my own childhood Holi days – Holi Dehan and Holi Milan were the most awaited days of the year for me too. But apart form the colours and sweets – Holi for me had a special attraction – a chance to showcase and exercise my ‘event management skills’.

At our place there used to be a community dinner and cultural show in the evening on Holi (rang waali). This was time when we children used to prepare a small show with skits and games for the adults in our mohalla. Some adult also used to participate by their singing/acting performances. I must credit many of my ‘project management’ skills to the experience of organising Holi Dehan and these Holi evening shows when I was the ‘bhaiiyaa’ of the Mohalla
[Incidentally I was known as dada even among my friends during my school days. It so happened that my brother used to call me dada which is Marathi for big brother (bhaiyaa). This term was picked up by all children in our Mohalla and subsequently by my friends as well. ]
This reminds of my role-model since my school days – Sunil Bhaiyaa. When I entered this Mohalla of ours, I was in class eighth and the bhaiyya of our mohalla was K. Sunil Vishnu. Incidentally he was also the Asst. School Captain of my school at that time and witnessing his leadership skills in our Mohalla I became a ‘fan’ of his. He has since been my role model whenever I think of an able leader. We had a great relationship and I used to enjoy talking to him and seeking his guidance.
My dreams came true when I went on to step into his shoes when I became the Editor of our school magazine (he was also the editor when in class 12th) and of course assumed the role of ‘Bhaiyya’ of the Mohalla after he left.
Sunil Bhaiyya or K. Sunil Vishnu went on to get a degree in mass communications from MICA and after working for two years is now chasing his dream. He and a friend of his have opened a theatre company named – Evam – in Chennai.

I too aspire to chase my dreams some day, and hence Sunil Bhaiyya remains a role model even today!

Cover of book on Mr. Ratan Tata  The chairman of Tata Trusts and former chairman of Tata Sons, Mr. Ratan Tata, passed away on the 10th of October. The last two days have been filled with coverage of Mr. Tata's contributions to the country, the economy, and the global business world. How will travel industry transform post-Covid

Unlike philosophers, journalists and teenagers, the world of entrepreneurship does not permit the luxury of gazing into a crystal ball to predict the future. An entrepreneur’s world is instead made of MVPs (Minimum Viable Product), A/B Tests, launching products, features or services and gauging / measuring their reception in the market to arrive at verifiable truths which can drive the business forward. Which is why I have never written about my musings or hypothesis about travel industry – we usually either seek customer feedback or launch an MVPised version and gather market feedback. However, with Covid-19 travel bans across the globe, the industry is currently stuck – while a lot of industry reports and journalistic conjectures are out, there’s no definitive answer to the way forward.
